It is with a heavy heart that we must share the news that former guitarist for 3 Doors Down and one of the founding members Matt Roberts, has passed away, his father confirms. The musician was just thirty-eight and it is suspected that an accidental overdose took his life. Just outside of Milwaukee, Matt and father Darrell were staying as the guitarist was to be partaking in a charity event. Father and son had adjoining rooms and it was police who woke Darrell up to alert him that Matt had died. Roberts was with the band when their debut album "The Better Life" went six times platinum and spawned the hits "Kryptonite" and "Loser."
He left four years ago due to health issues. We have yet to hear from his former band mates but this is not the first time that they have been plagued by tragedy. In 2013, bassist Robert Harrell was jailed after he was involved in a fatal car crash. That led to him being kicked out of the band and getting a two-year prison sentence. The band is heading out on tour again and I am sure that they will keep Matt close to their hearts!
