Let me just say 'A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish' has to be the best addition to the 'Cinderella Story' franchise since the original with Hilary Duff. That was always one of my favorite girlie movies and was followed up by three additional sequels, now four with Christmas Wish, none directly connected to the original. Yet, the theme was the same as 'Cinderella' in general. Girl loses father and is forced to live with evil stepmother and two spoiled stepsisters, beholden by something, usually an inheritance.
Such is the case in Christmas Wish for Kat, just four months premature of her 18th birthday. If she can just make it there, she will get the money her dad left her, which her evil stepmom constantly reminds her. Until the time comes, Kat works as an elf as well as a singing telegram but still must hand over money to the family, though this is completely unnecessary. At work, she meets a handsome stranger who plays Santa and attempts to make it to the grand gala all while being blocked by her horrid step-family. Yet, her best friend, Isla will stop at nothing to ensure she gets the guy and happiness.
The cast is spectacular as Laura Marano is adorably enchanting as Kat while Gregg Sulkin steals the show as the handsome but unassuming Dominic Wintergarden. The cast just works so well together in every scene, down to the handicapped dog and it is just a believable and charming holiday film. It is hopeful, sweet, happy, and perfect for all ages. I was thoroughly engaged the entire film so for that, I give it three gnomes out of four. You can own 'A CINDERELLA STORY: CHRISTMAS WISH' on Blu-Ray and DVD October 29 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
