The wait is finally over. In what is being deemed as a historic move, Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President, Joe Biden has picked biracial California Senator, Kamala Harris, to be his running mate. Both Biden and Bernie Sanders, who was also running for president (for the second time) said they would definitely choose a woman when the time came. Then, the Black Lives Matter movement occurred and it became glaringly obvious the woman had to be African-American to help bridge the divide as the United States was filled with so much hate, racism, antisemitism, and beyond. It was like being in a time warp.
There were a handful of candidates such as Stacey Abrams and Val Demings but, in the end, Harris was the take charge kind of leader who could go head-to-head with the Republican Party and stand firm with Biden. Though they quarreled during the initial debates, this just shows how two people can put their personal differences aside for the greater good of the nation. The Democratic National Convention will begin in Milwaukee on Monday and run through Thursday the 20th. As for the current president, Donald Trump has already pinned a tweet video calling Kamala a "phony" so I'd say he's taking this well.
